Michelle Koplan,
Chief Executive Officer

Michelle Koplan has been the Chief Executive Officer of B’nai B’rith Camp since 1999. She is responsible for the overall administration and management of B’nai B’rith Camp, including programs, fundraising, and business operations. Her areas of expertise include planning and evaluation, policy development and administration, personnel and fiscal management, and public relations.

For six years prior to becoming the Chief Executive Officer of BB Camp, Michelle was the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization Director for both the Portland and Eugene Councils and directed the Mittleman Jewish Community Center’s Youth Services Department.

Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California Santa Barbara. In 2007, Michelle was part of the first group of camp executive directors to complete the Executive Leadership Institute (an MBA equivalent program) sponsored by the Foundation for Jewish Camp.

B’nai B’rith Camp is Michelle’s childhood Camp, as she was a camper for eight years and on summer staff for nine years. Camp is a family affair. Michelle and her husband, Loren, a Bnai B’rith Men’s Camper, have two daughters who have attended BB Camp with Michelle since they were infants. Both girls are enthusiastic BB Campers!

Allison Kaufman,
Chief Financial Officer

Allison earned her Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Arizona. Prior to working for BB Camp, Allison was an analyst in the Mortgage Banking field for 13 years.

Allison and her husband Jason have three beautiful daughters (who are now devoted BB campers and couselors). Allison is also a Girl Scout troop leader and likes to bake, sew and play computer games.

Chanel Bourdeau,
Chief Operations Office

Chanel was born and raised in Portland, graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Chanel first joined the BB Camp community in 2014 and feels lucky to call it her second home.

Chanel is proud of her experiences working in various Jewish leadership roles at BB Camp, spanning from Counselor to Unit Head to Counseling Director to Social Inclusion Intern, and including volunteering for BBYO. Chanel has a passion for community enrichment and working with individuals of all abilities, which she attributes to her time spent at BB Camp.

Prior to Chanel’s current position, she was the Housing and Employment Specialist at a local non-profit serving adults with disabilities. In Chanel’s spare time, you can find her enjoying live music, exploring the Portland food scene, or at the Oregon Coast with her dog.

Rivka Arbetter,
Database Manager

Rivka is a Chicago native who moved to Portland in 2022. She earned her B.A. in Media Studies from the University of Chicago and an M.A. in History from the University of California, Irvine. She has worked at a marketing company, multiple film festivals, university libraries, museums, and several non-profit organizations.

Having grown up attending Jewish day school and Camp Chi, Rivka has always had a strong sense of community and cultural identity. Her goal is to help ensure others have that same connection to their heritage, history, and community. As a result, she is thrilled to be a part of the BB Camp team!

Rivka is a big reader, she reads over 100 books a year! She also loves to create art, watch movies and tv, play board and video games, see musicals, and pet any dog she comes across.

Aaron Bazen,
Facilities Director

Aaron joined the BB Camp team in October 2015, leaving a 25-year career to pursue the next chapter of his life. Since joining the team, he has enthusiastically jumped into many projects. He and his team have been updating and beautifying the camp. He is very proud of the work that has accomplished.

Aaron has always been a car enthusiast and spends his free time rebuilding his latest project. He is also an avid Harley rider and has rebuilt and custom-painted it his motorcycle.

Aaron has a son and two stepchildren who are camp alumni, and a daughter who has recently made him a grandpa of a beautiful baby girl!

Becci Bazen,
Food Service Director

Becci graduated from Western Culinary Institute in Portland Oregon in 1995, with a Culinary Arts Degree. She knew from a young age that she wanted to be a Chef. She attributes her love for cooking to the time she shared in the kitchen with her grandmother.

Becci has known since bringing her daughter to BB Camp in 1999, that it was a very special place and thought that this would be the ultimate dream job, matching two of her favorite things, feeding kids with Camp! She has three kids, two that have and one that currently attends BB Camp. She is very grateful for the experiences and opportunities that BB Camp has given her family and is grateful to be able to give back to BB Camp.

Sam Blauer,
BB Camp (Overnight) Director

Sam is a fourth-generation Oregonian and BB Camper. Sam was born and raised in Portland and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Oregon. From attending Family Camps to returning to Overnight Camp every year possible throughout childhood, BB Camp has always been a second home for Sam and his sister. Their parents even met at BB Camp when they attended as teenagers in the early 1980s.

Sam returned as a BB Camp Counselor in 2022 and again as a Unit Head in 2023. Sam has also worked at BB360’s Annual Men’s Camp for the past five years and served as Lead Counselor for three of those years. These roles sharpened his skills in team leadership, operations management, and conflict resolution.

In his free time, Sam enjoys spending time at the beach, listening to live music, and playing sports with friends, including basketball and golf.

Craig Gerard,
Chief Development Officer

Craig Gerard grew up going to Jewish summer camp in California.
After graduating from the University of California, Davis, Craig lived in San Francisco, working in event production, and then in Washington, DC, running the community service department at the Jewish Community Center. His wife’s career with USAID took them overseas; starting in 2006, they have lived in Cairo, Phnom Penh, Dakar, and Rome, where Craig continued building community and honing his storytelling skills as the Director of the Community Liaison Office and as a Public Diplomacy Officer. Craig is the co-founder and former Executive Director of Stone Soup PDX, a Portland nonprofit that trains those with barriers to employment for careers in the foodservice industry. He grew the organization from the start-up phase to a thriving organization with 16 full-time employees and over 300,000 meals served to food-insecure Portlanders. In his spare time, Craig plays guitar and Ultimate Frisbee; he also loves to cook and serve up tasty beverages. Craig and his wife, Ronit, live in SW Portland and have two boys.

Allyn Berry Graves,
Rentals & Retreats Experience Coordinator

Allyn Berry Graves, the “hostess with the mostest,” is your go-to coordinator for unforgettable rental and retreat experiences. A natural mediator and bridge builder, Allyn is passionate about creating welcoming spaces for everyone. Her love for people, languages, and cultures shines through in her ability to connect and greet guests in multiple languages! A devoted mother, grandmother, and wife, Allyn was born in Tillamook, Oregon, and discovered a new joy in BB Camp in 2023. Allyn cherishes the diverse career opportunities life has gifted her and is absolutely delighted to be a part of
your next adventure.

Jake Hoffman,
Assistant Director – Staff & Teen Engagement

Jake was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, and graduated in 2023 from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and a minor in Economics. A lifelong BB Camper, Jake spent many summers at BB Camp with his three siblings. In 2023, he returned as a Social Media Intern and Counselor, deepening his connection to the BB Camp community.

Jake has also worked as a Marketing & Media Intern for Lane United FC and as a Social Media Manager for the University of Oregon Esports Program, building his expertise in digital media and marketing strategy.

In his free time, Jake enjoys traveling, playing video games with his brothers, and staying active through soccer, running, and Muay Thai.

Rebecca Marx,
Grants Manager

Becca grew up in Portland and is a third-generation BB Camper. She received her degree in Religious Studies at the University of Oregon. Upon graduating, she spent five years building Jewish community through Hillel engagement work. She then pivoted into the development world, spending the next five years grant writing to fund critical programs for at-risk youth and families throughout Lane County.

Becca is excited to blend her career history and passions through funding the impactful, life-changing opportunities B’nai B’rith Camp creates for kids and families. When she’s not chasing around her littles, Ben and Leah, you may find her running on the local trails!

Haddi Meyer,
BB Day Camps Director

Haddi graduated from Arizona State in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, and a double minor in Japanese and opera performance. Haddi has always been a “camp person” and has been deeply involved with Jewish camp and social programs since she was 13. She spent five wonderful summers on the programs team for BB Day Camp Portland and is thrilled to once again be able make camp magic to so many kids and families as the Day Camps Director.

When she’s not at camp, you can find Haddi on stage in community theater productions, adventuring with friends, or reading with her cats Sticky and Goblin.

Noa Rubin,
Marketing and Communications Director

Born in Eilat, Israel, Noa Rubin is fluent in Hebrew and served in the Israeli Force as a Computer Operator. She holds a BFA in Photography from the State University of New York at Purchase and a Certificate in Multimedia from Portland Community College.​

Noa’s diverse professional background includes several years as a studio photographer for Christie’s Auction House in New York City. She has also taught English in Vietnam and Spain. Since relocating to Portland in 2008, Noa has contributed her skills to various Jewish organizations, enriching the community with her expertise.​

In her leisure time, Noa enjoys engaging in arts and crafts, photography, rock climbing, camping, and traveling. Additioanlly, she participates in paddleboard races and leads outdoor events as a Women Who Explore Ambassador, and gigs as a trivia host.

Yuliya Saponar,
Accounting Specialist

Yulia was born in Ukraine and lived in Israel for over 20 years. She is fluent in Russian and Hebrew. Graduating from Open University of Israel with a Bachelor’s Degree of Management and Economics earned Yuliya the opportunity to work for 18 years in the field of finance in the chemical industry in Israel, prior to moving to the United States.

Yuliya’s family is the most cherished part of her life. Her three sons, Lior, Roni and Gil, all have actively participated in our BB Camp community. Her eldest, Lior, was a BB Camp counselor in 2014 and now serves in the US military. Roni was devoted BB Camper from the ages of 11 to 15, and Gil recently became a BB Camper. In her spare time, Yuliya and her husband, Shimon, travel with their family. Yuliya enjoys dancing with her husband, as well as Zumba and belly dancing. In fact, Yuliya and Shimon are known to go to parties and dance until they’re the last ones left!

Kim Schneiderman,
Chief Community and Jewish Life Officer

Kim has spent 20+ years singing, service leading, songwriting, and making music with families and communities of all ages. Kim spent fourteen years as Music Specialist at Portland Jewish Academy and currently has the title of Artist in Residence at Congregation Beth Israel.

Other projects include writing and directing numerous Purim Shpiels and curriculum-based musicals, lending her voice on OyBaby! and ThatBaby!, a CD series of Jewish and Secular music, along with her sisters, Stephanie Schneiderman (producer) and Lisa Schneiderman, and recording an album of her original children’s songs titled “Walk Around The Block”, which received a distinguished 2017 Parents’ Choice Award®. Yad b’Yad, a project close to Kim’s heart, ran for ten years at Cedar Sinai Park, bringing together young families and residents. For over a decade, Kim has led Shabbat services for all the BB Summer Camps including various Family Camps and ReJewvenation weekends.

Sylvia Smith,
Operations Coordinator

Originally from Northern California, Sylvia has taken a roundabout route to land in the Pacific Northwest at BB360! Sylvia first discovered Jewish camp with B’nai B’rith Camp starting as a Teen Villager. For the next few summers, she went through the LIT program through counselor roles. After graduating from college at Arizona State University with a degree in Secondary Education, Sylvia spent the next ten years working in public education, followed by a two year experience of working in corporate operations. Returning to work with Jewish camp has been a long-held wish, and Sylvia is so delighted to be back with BB360.

When not at work, you can find Sylvia playing with her 3 dogs, enjoying nature, or crushing it during Trivia night!
