For Rising 11th Graders | JULY 15 – AUGUST 12, 2025
Our Staff in Training (SIT) program is designed for teens ready to take the next step, from camper to camp leader. We like to say “SIT” stands for “Summer in Transition” because it’s all about growing into new roles with confidence and enthusiasm. SITs will gain hands-on experience in leadership and counseling, working alongside our seasoned staff to learn what it takes to guide, support, and inspire younger campers. Through daily training workshops and mentorship, participants will develop skills in communication, responsibility, and teamwork. But it’s not all work, SITs still get to enjoy the magic of camp with plenty of time for classic activities like tubing, ziplining, campfires, beach trips, and more. It’s the perfect blend of leadership training and summer fun.
Hands-On Experience Across Camp
SITs will gain a well-rounded view of camp by rotating through a variety of roles that support the whole camp community. From shadowing activity specialists and working directly with camper cabins to assisting in the kitchen and helping in the main office, each experience offers a chance to “learn by doing”. These rotations are rooted in the Jewish value of avodah, meaning both work and sacred service, emphasizing that every role at camp contributes to something greater than ourselves.
Develop Your Program Planning Skills
As part of the SIT experience, participants will gain hands-on experience in planning, developing, and organizing camp activities. From brainstorming creative ideas to coordinating logistics, SITs will learn essential skills in program design and execution. This opportunity not only strengthens leadership abilities but also teaches valuable teamwork, organization, and problem-solving skills all while contributing to the fun and spirit of camp.
Leadership in Action: Community Service Hours
Upon successful completion of the SIT program, participants will receive 30 hours of documented community service. These hours reflect meaningful contributions to the camp community—acts of service rooted in the Jewish value of gemilut chasadim (loving-kindness) and the responsibility to care for others. Whether supporting younger campers, helping staff, or working behind the scenes, SITs will learn that true leadership starts with showing up, lending a hand, and making a difference.
Exploring Identity & Building Community
A core part of the SIT curriculum focuses on identity building, inclusion, and understanding ourselves, each other, and the diverse world we’re part of. Through guided conversations and reflective activities, SITs will explore aspects of identity such as race, gender, disability, nationality, and more, and how these intersect with Jewish identity and values. This component of the program empowers participants to deepen their empathy, celebrate differences, and learn what it means to be both a mensch and an active ally. By building awareness and compassion, SITs will be better equipped to create inclusive spaces at camp and carry those values into their communities beyond.
A Global Experience: International SITs
Our SIT program proudly welcomes participants from around the world, adding a rich layer of cultural exchange and global perspective to the camp community. International SITs bring unique stories, culture, traditions, and perspectives that enhance every conversation and activity. Working alongside peers from different countries broadens your worldview and helps build lasting friendships across borders. It’s not just about leadership training, it’s a chance to expand your camp network globally and be part of a truly international team working toward a common goal.
Learning from the Best: Guest Facilitators & Training
Throughout the session, guest facilitators will lead dynamic workshops designed to enhance the SIT experience. These expert-led sessions will provide invaluable tools and insights for emerging leaders, enhancing their overall growth and preparedness.
Leave a Legacy: Mosaic Art with Our Artist in Residence
As part of the SIT experience, participants will collaborate with our Artist in Residence to design and create a mosaic installation to commemorate their journey and celebrate their transition from campers to camp leaders.
Stipend
In addition to 30 hours of community service, each SIT participant will receive a stipend of $125 per week, totaling $500 for the full four-week program. This stipend reflects their growing responsibilities and commitment as emerging leaders at camp.
